Introduction
The Flesh Flies belong to the family Sarcophagidae with over 65 species in the group. Flesh Flies often have 3 dark stripes on their thorax and have bright red eyes. The majority breed in rotting vegetation. The females are viviparous which means they produce live maggots. The eggs of the Flesh Fly hatch in the females uterus before she lays them. The result is the larvae or maggots are deposited directly into or onto their food source, unlike blowflies that lay eggs on the food source that can take up to 24 hours to hatch.
