Lesson Five

Now you have put your swing all together, let’s look at the width of stance and ball placement for three different types of clubs. They are :

Long ( 1,2,3,4 and 5 woods)

Medium (2,3,4,5,6 and 7 irons)

Short ( 8 and 9 irons, wedge, pitching wedge and sand iron)

The chart shows how far you can expect each club to hit the ball.

Long Clubs

In diagram 1, Robert is in the ready position with a long club. The insides of his feet are the same width apart as his shoulders and he has positioned the ball opposite his target heel. He has slightly more weight on his trail side foot than on his target foot.

Medium Clubs

In diagram 2, Erica is ready to hit her six-iron, which is a medium club. The laces on her shoes are level with the outsides of her shoulders. The ball is about 10cm inside her target heel and her hands are level with the ball. Her weight is distributed evenly on each foot.

Short Clubs

In diagram 3, Robert is ready to hit a short club, his nine iron. The outside of his feet are level with his shoulders and the ball is in the middle of his stance. His hands are in front of the ball and he has a little more weight on his target foot.
